Dalkey Book Festival – a weekend in late June each year

Edna O’Brien was the highlight for me. There was also a tribute event to Maeve Binchy. It’s sad to think that we will never again see her, or Seamus Heaney, making a contribution. (RIP).

I went to Donal Ryan & Colm O’Regan for Friday night – they do a good double act. Sebastian Barry did readings on Sunday afternoon. He was best due to his acting ability. Other notables are :- Lenny Abrahamson, Salmon Rushdie, Joseph O’Connor, John Banville & Robert Fiske but no-one as iconic as Edna, Maeve and Seamus !

Lots of good stuff but I only went to one event – Paul Howard – creator of the Dublin character Ross O’Carroll. He does great impersonations with modern Dublin humour but I didn’t realise he used so many swear words/profanities in his writing. His work is good enough without that.
