November 2014
The book has now sold in Ireland, UK, USA, Canada & Australia. In September I embarked on a US tour. This consisted of one author talk at a senior centre in the town of Barnstable, on Cape Cod, MA. See the photo above – now how fancy is that!
We’re in the best seller listings! Search on Amazon.com: Kindle store>Kindle eBooks>Literature Fiction>British>Humour&Satire. As of this morning we’re in 11th place. We’ve actually been number 1 for a few days over the last few months. (Fyi, .com does not have an “Irish” option on this particular browse path).
That’s the good news. The not so good news is that my US author talk resulted in only 11 hard copy sales on the day, although more eBook sales have followed. Thus we have gained a foothold in the US market but until we achieve critical mass it must be categorised as a significant “opportunity”. We will have made tangible progress when we move from the seniors centre to national radio and TV.
You may have noticed my liberal use of the word “we”. This is because I hope to regard you all as an unofficial network of literary agents – a fine body of men and women who seek no reward other than the joy that comes from bringing fine art and literature to a wider audience. We’ve done a lot but there’s a lot more selling to do!
Maybe my adventure into self-publishing will encourage more of you to do the same? I hope so. As they say, there’s a book in all of us just waiting to get out.
